So, its 2012. The apocalypse is this year so I better make it count. It’s been said that it takes 28 days to form a habit, so roughly using that there are 12 new things I can get into this year. So I’ve decided to start learning 12 new skills or habits. The skills that I’ve always said “oh I wish I was good at that” well yeah I would be if I actually bothered trying and practicing these things. Time to get off my lazy ass and start learning them rather than expecting the skill to magically be gifted to me by the gods. The first step is to start as 37signals says!
Right the world is at my oyster, what thing do I want to change in my life first? I’m going to be average Joe here and say improve my health and fitness. Basically stop eating crap, do exercise regularly and if all ends up well I will gain a body that puts most Hollywood stars to shame.
Nearly everybody has tried to be on a diet before and then for whatever reason stopped. Me too! Bummer. So I’m going to try the same diet again (4 Hour Body ) but make a few adjustments so I don’t fail again. One thing is that because I’m a poor striving businessman I still live with my parents ( megadork I know ) so expecting my family to stick to my diet for dinner each night is asking too much, so I have what everybody else is having. I make sure the house stocked up with my healthy food, so I am less likely to stray when I’m out as happened previously. A trick I use for my meals is that I have a few pre-planned meals, so I can just make them without having to think, making it easier to keep eating healthy.
It’s always nice to have a chart to show me how well I’m doing. I’m using my daily weight and measurement around my belly for the chart. Unfortunately weight varies so much when I tried the first time that wasn’t much help as it seemed like I was getting nowhere (boohoo), but I seen some amazing advice in the book Signal and Noise that helps me out, which is use a 10 day average instead. Doing this I see a lot nicer chart showing my weight and belly measurement going downwards which definitely helps keep me on track.
Regarding fitness, after being recommended by a friend I bought Your Shape 2012 for the Kinect. It has zillions of routines and gives you objectives, each workout is hard work, and I leave sweating like Lee Evans, which in this case is a good thing. I do this basically first thing in the morning 3 days a week ( or immediately when I get home from work at 11am ) so life doesn’t get in the way.
So it’s almost the end of the month and I can see I’ve lost lots of fat already (approx 1.5inches from my belly) and 9 pounds in weight so it’s going well so far. Here’s hoping I can keep it up and I’ll be Mr Universe in no time!
